Mari Todd

Mari worked in community health settings introducing initiatives such as Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training and Mental Health First Aid Training to Scotland whilst working as a Health Promotion Specialist in NHS Shetland. Mari has an interest in rural health and wellbeing having grown up in Argyll.

Research interests:

Social identity, belonging and sense of place. Applying social identity theory to behaviour in sport settings, community health and wellbeing settings and organisational settings. Exploring how social identity approaches and sense of place can impact on health and wellbeing behaviours including helping communities become more resilient and sustainable to cope with the impacts of climate change.

Previous Background: 

Mari has a background as an international athlete having competed for the GB Orienteering team at 3 Junior World Championships and competing at 5 World Mountain Running Championships. Mari also competed for GB at road cycling briefly before taking a break from sport to start her family. She returned to running and cycling and won several national titles in cycling before retiring from competitive sport. Mari now enjoys running, cycling, paddleboarding and skiff racing (community rowing).
