Karen-Ann Dicken
Lecturer in Art and Design- Inverness College UHI
Karen-Ann Dicken is a jewellery designer and lecturer based in Inverness. She gained her BA Honours degree from the Glasgow School of Art in 2005 and her Master of Arts from the Royal College of Art (2007) in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing, Metal work and Jewellery.
Karen-Ann has been lecturing since 2007 in jewellery design, CAD, 3D design and contemporary Art Practice. She has worked in both HE and FE at various institutions including Glasgow School of Art, Gray’s School of Art, City of Glasgow College and Glasgow Clyde College (Cardonald).
She is currently completing her PhD from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee and is specialising in the use of digital technologies to create tooling for hand craft. She has presented conference papers across the UK as well as US and Kenya which have been published. She also runs and curates an annual exhibition and conference entitled ‘Handmade by Machines’ which has become an international event.
Karen-Ann became a self employed jewellery designer in 2007 and has exhibited at exhibitions both in the UK and internationally. Her jewellery design work is recognised for innovative use of modern and digital technologies whilst still maintaining the use of traditional hand craft skills. She has won multiple awards in areas such as innovative technologies, gallery design, computer aided design and new laser sintering technologies. Her work is held in various collections and museums including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Koch collection at the Swiss Museum.
