The prospect of learning about forestry in the pictureque surroundings of the Scottish Highlands attracts interest from around the globe.

Katarina Lindroth from Sweden fell in love with Inverness College UHI and has already been putting her skills to good use by gaining invaluable industry experience, developing contacts which will stand her in good stead as her career progresses.

“I am so pleased that I chose to study in Scotland at Inverness College UHI. The forestry courses are great and they have opened up so many opportunities.

Before even finishing my studies, I have worked in three completely different areas of forestry. It is hard work but the rewards make it worth it, from good grades to some of the work placements I have enjoyed so far.

I am really fortunate to live in the Highlands, which is a beautiful part of the world.”

Katarina studied our HNC and HND in Forestry, before progressing to our BSc (Hons) Forest Management programme, part-time.

The flexibility  offered her the opportunity to harness her knowledge and passion for the outdoors by working as assistant harvesting manager at John Gordon and Son sawmill in Nairn.

Katarina’s role saw her buying timber, managing the harvesting sites and looking after all the logistics.

“I’m very lucky to be in a job I like so much. Hopefully I can continue developing my skills within forest management and harvesting. I'm really enjoying everything and there is plenty to learn so I look forward to many exciting years ahead.”
