About...

Social policy is going through a period of significant change and the module explores the underlying factors that are involved in this transformation, including the influence of a shifting value system. The analysis of welfare policy developments and delivery are linked back to the wider social and economic context. Scottish social policy provision is examined, drawing upon examples from the wider British and European frameworks.

  • Understand the importance of the past and present socio-economic context in the making of social policy
  • Identify and consider the significant legislative and value bases shaping social policy provision
  • Explore examples of policy making in relation to a changing Scottish population within a wider British and European context.
