About...

This module aims to explore the relationship between reader, writer and text. It contains lessons, taken from other authors’ works, that we can then apply to our own writing to prepare us for the journey to becoming a published author.

Attend timetabled classes online for some of your learning and assessments.  Also access online Brightspace or Google Classrooms for self-directed study.

Course content...

Part 1 (weeks 1-5) – study pack. Select a contemporary author and explore their process, their vision and the links between their texts. What influence does author have on text? What other influences contribute to the text? Produce a study pack with an author profile and an imagined interview with the writer. Develop skills in research, synthesising information and presenting documents professionally.

Part 2 (weeks 6-10) – essay. A more traditional study of contemporary novels with a strong narrative style. Produce a well-structured essay of 1,000 words. Develop knowledge of narrative styles and structures commonly used in fiction.

Part 3 (weeks 11 & 12) – reflect on what you have learned on the module and how this has influenced your professional practice.
