SCQF levels explained

Our Senior Phase programmes are certified by the Scottish Qualifications Authority. We use the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (interactive map), below, and SCQF levels, to explain the level of difficulty of a programme.

Apply for an access level course content SCQF 1 & 2

Apply for an access level course

Access level - Equivalent of a National 1 or National 2 and intended for pupils looking to take the first small steps into college life.

Apply for a level 4 course content SCQF 4

Apply for a level 4 course

For pupils capable of studying at National 4 level or who have completed National 4 study.

Apply for a level 5 programme content SCQF 5

Apply for a level 5 programme

For pupils who have successefully studied at National 4 level and ready to study at National 5 level.

Apply for a level 6 course content SCQF 6

Apply for a level 6 course

For pupils who have successfully completed National 5 study and are ready to study at level 6, the equivalent of a Higher.

Apply for a level 7 course content SCQF 7

Apply for a level 7 course

For pupils in S6 only who have successfully studied at Higher level. Level 7 is equivalent to an Advanced Higher, Higher National Certificate, or first year of a degree programme.
