IBFC Masters student presents at international conference
Alanna-Jo McCallum, a Masters student with the Institute for Biodiversity and Freshwater Conservation, presented her MRes project Characterizing the Microbiome of Scottish Freshwater Pearl Mussels at an international scientific conference in Karlstad, Sweden last month.
Alanna-Jo said being one of 150 attendees at the European Freshwater Mollusk Conservation Society meeting marked a significant milestone in her research journey.
“This invaluable opportunity, made possible by the Research Conference and Training Fund from the UHI Graduate School, allowed me to share Scotland’s ongoing conservation and research efforts for freshwater pearl mussels with a passionate audience of experts in the field,” she said.
It provided the perfect platform for brainstorming, receiving valuable feedback, being inspired by new ideas and networking with potential collaborators.
