A scientist doing lab work

Could your business benefit from our expert research knowledge? Our consultancy service offers specialist laboratory analysis across a broad spectrum of environmental topics, providing access to leading scientific expertise. These services cover environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling and analysis, including biodiversity monitoring through DNA metabarcoding, and species detection using species-specific genetic probes. We can conduct genetic analysis of animals, plants, and fungi, as well as soil assessments for Habitat Creation Schemes and terrestrial invertebrate surveys for Ecological Impact Assessments. We also undertake various assessments, feasibility studies, and socio-economic evaluations for forest, woodland, and other land management projects.

We offer the following consultancy services:

  • Biodiversity monitoring through DNA metabarcoding. We offer analysis of aquatic, benthic and soil communities (fish, mammals, amphibians, macroinvertebrates and bacteria). If required, we can work with you to design bespoke approaches to suit your needs. Contact: Dr Nathan P. Griffiths for aquatic ecosystem and Dr Cristian Navarro Waggershauser for terrestrial ecosystem.
  • Species detection through species specific genetic probes (quantitative PCR, digital PCR). We are able to use existing assays and design new ones. Contact: Dr Barbara Morrissey
  • Development and optimisation of genotyping-by-sequencing panels for targeted genetic markers. Contact: Dr Victoria Pritchard
  • Genetic sexing of salmonid fishes. Contact: Dr Victoria Pritchard
  • We can assist with both quantitative and qualitative data analysis, including statistical analysis, machine learning, text mining, natural language processing, sentiment analysis and network analysis. Staff members also have extensive experience building automated reporting pipelines and in the creation of interactive data dashboards. Contact: Dr Andrew Duncan
  • Forests, trees and land management assessments, feasibility studies, socio-economic evaluations and linkages between natural environment and socio-cultural aspects. Data analysis through mixed methods and communication expertise through multi-media approaches. Contact: Dr Euan Bowditch
