Stories of the street: Piloting methodologies for intergenerational inclusion in neighbourhood planning
UHI Inverness Researchers: Vicky Johnson and Sarah Wagner
RGU Researchers: David Gray, Chris Yuill and Izzy Crawford
This collaboration between UHI and Robert Gordon University (RGU) piloted approaches and methodologies to explore and track changing, disappearing, and emerging spaces for intergenerational encounters. The project team designed and tested methods that enable participants across the ages, including underrepresented groups, to meaningfully engage in re-defining local neighbourhoods.
Pilot research in Aberdeen involving walking interviews and emotional mapping, demonstrated the importance of inhabiting a main street to confer and reinforce a shared sense of identity and place. These pilot findings are underlying continued collaborative work with RGU to develop unique methodologies that combine archival and digital approaches to place planning.
