Mark has published research into religious conversion to Islam in Mexico and about the place of Islam in Central American and South American society. He has also carried out Scottish Government-funded educational research into the use of evidence by early career teachers in rural areas from the perspective of their closing of the poverty-induced attainment gap. Mark is presently exploring the use of anthropological skills within Initial Teacher Education as part of a Doctorate in Education at the University of Strathclyde.
Mark is also one of two representatives of UHI on the Scottish Educational Research Association's Executive.
