Inverness College UHI appoints Interim Chair to its Board of Management

Inverness College UHI has appointed a new Interim Chair to its Board of Management.

Mark Sheridan replaces Sarah Burton, who stepped down on 18th June following 18 months in the role.

Mark joined the college’s Board of Management at the beginning of the year and brings with him a wealth and knowledge and experience of the further and higher education sectors in Scotland, having worked as a Reader in Music and Creativity for the University of the Highlands and Islands and a Senior Lecturer in Music and Head of Department at the University of Strathclyde, where he led curriculum change. He was also a Trustee and Chair of the Board at Fèis Rois until 2019. Mark currently runs his own music consultancy supporting musicians with professional and creative development opportunities.

Recruitment to appoint a permanent Chair of the Board of Management will start shortly.

Professor Chris O’Neil, Principal and Chief Executive of Inverness College UHI, said: “Sarah’s dedication and commitment to serving the board, staff and students over the last 18 months means we have a solid foundation upon which we can continue to develop and progress as we reach a critical point in the development of the University partnership. Mark has shown a clear understanding of collaborative working across our partnership and our ambitions of becoming more engaged with our communities and enterprising in our activity, demonstrating his ability to provide stability as well as strategic vision.”

Membership of the Board of Management includes individuals from across the community, public and private sector as well as Inverness College UHI staff and students. It is an autonomous body, responsible for overseeing the College’s activities, future direction, and facilitating an environment where the vision is achieved, and the potential of all learners is maximised.
