Lecturers join judging panel for prestigious hair & beauty awards
Inverness College UHI hair and beauty lecturers are amongst the judging panel for this year’s North of Scotland Hair & Beauty Industry Awards.
Beauty lecturer Ellen Geddes is joined by hairdressing lecturers’ Roz Bullard and Seonaid Morrison on the judging panel for this year’s competition, which will be live streamed on Sunday 29th November.
The awards recognise excellence in the hair and beauty sector across the North of Scotland, with 21 categories to be awarded. The judges have been meeting virtually to consider applications, with finalists announced on 16th October ahead of a 14-day public vote.
Most lecturers in the Creative Arts department at Inverness College UHI also work in industry, either as freelancers or as self-employed workers. Roz and Seonaid both run their own salons and became registered trichologists, specialists trained in the diagnoses and treatment of hair and scalp problems, earlier this year.
Inverness College UHI is now exploring opportunities for CPD awards in trichology for qualified hairdressers and looking to develop its curriculum offer in this area of hair science.
Hairdressing lecturer Roz said: “The creative arts team at Inverness College UHI works very closely with industry to ensure our teaching reflects the most up-to-date skills and standards for the workplace and that our students have the very best experience. It has been an honour to join the judging panel and to see the breadth of exceptional work taking place across the North of Scotland just now and to be able to share that experience and insight with our students.”
Running alongside the awards is the Runway competition, which encourages an individual stylist or team of stylists to express their creative vision by styling an on-trend finish with a catwalk feel, with this year’s theme, masked elegance. These entries will be presented live on the night, with a live voting system to decide the winner.
The event will be hosted by STV news presenters Chris Harvey and Nicola McAlley, helping to raise money for the STV Children’s Appeal.
