Up to £5000 is available to employers to hire someone new or develop an existing employee through Skills Development Scotland’s Apprenticeship Employer Grant.

Inverness College UHI is one of the largest College training providers in Scotland, with around 700 apprentices enrolled and working across a broad range of sectors including business, construction, engineering, forestry, health and social care and hospitality.

Funding is available for employers who start apprentices between 1st December 2020 and 25th March 2021. Funding is limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Employers interested in starting a Modern or Graduate Apprentice are urged to contact the Business Solutions Team at Inverness College UHI, for support in recruiting and training an apprentice. Email business.ic@uhi.ac.uk.

Joanne MacKinnon, Business Solutions Manager, said: “Apprenticeships are an excellent way for businesses to build a skilled workforce and this grant is great news for employers who perhaps haven’t been able to recruit an apprentice or provide skills training this year because of the pandemic. The Business Solutions Team stands ready to support employers to recruit an apprentice, claim the grant and put in place Apprentices’ training plans.”

£5000 will be available for employers taking on a 16-24-year-old apprentice, and for those aged up to 29 who are either disabled, care leavers or Black and Minority Ethnic (BME). £3500 will be made available for employers taking on an apprentice aged 25 or over.
