Chinese academics visit Inverness College UHI on fact-finding trip
EIGHT academics from Henan University of Urban Construction (HUUC) in China have visited Inverness College UHI to learn more about civil engineering, urban and green planning in the UK.
The delegation, a mix of professors and faculty staff, attended a series of lectures and seminars on city planning, environment and architecture, traffic design and management in relation to creating green areas in urban environments. The course included visits to the Scottish School of Forestry, Balloch, and to current construction projects, including the West Link in Inverness, as well as work with Highland Council’s planning team.
The group also learned more about higher education in the UK and how Inverness College UHI delivers its architectural technology civil engineering programmes.
The bespoke programme was developed by the International Team at Inverness College UHI. Jennifer Loades, international development executive at Inverness College UHI, said: “This programme has been specifically designed to meet the needs and interests of the group from Henan University of Urban Construction. They learned lots about how we use the natural environment to influence urban planning in the UK and hopefully came away with new concepts on how to incorporate nature into what they’ve described as their concrete forests. We also added in a few day trips to the programme so they could really get the most out of their visit to the Scottish Highlands and experience some of the natural beauty it has to offer.”
Inverness College UHI offers a range of bespoke packages to universities worldwide including its Scottish Experience programme, a short study-abroad programme for international students tailored around a customised theme.
The Chinese delegation arrived in Inverness on Sunday, 8th October, and stayed at the Students Residences at Inverness Campus for the duration of their 10-day visit.
HUUC already has an international exchange partnership with the University of the Highlands and Islands and runs joint programmes in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with Perth College UHI.
