New Service Bolsters College Links with Highland Employers

8th February 2016

Inverness College UHI is set to become a vital link between education and employment in the Highlands with the launch of its new training and recruitment service today (8 February).

Led by the business solutions team - which combines the knowledge and experience of academic and business development colleagues – the new service has created a one-stop-shop where the region’s employers can access staff development and recruitment support.

The new service builds on the College’s existing strong relationship with the Highland business community and maximises the potential of the modern, purpose-built training facilities offered by its new buildings at Inverness Campus and Balloch (The Scottish School of Forestry).

It also reflects the College’s role in preventing the migration of young talent to the central belt and beyond. Over recent years, the College has seen a significant increase in the number of people attending full-time and part-time courses (17% between 2012 and 2015).

Speaking of the new service, Georgie Parker, director of business development at Inverness College UHI, said: “As a provider of short courses, modern apprenticeships, full and part-time qualifications and a range of new initiatives such as foundation apprenticeships, Inverness College UHI is a natural partner for businesses seeking to develop their workforce.

“What’s more, given the high quality, industry standard specification of our new training equipment and environment, the College is uniquely positioned to provide comprehensive support to the region’s business community.

“We’re really excited about launching the new service, and look forward to working with businesses to build the Highland workforce of the future.”

The College has already worked with a wide range of businesses to help them address specific training needs. A recent example is national rail transport provider, Scotrail.

The organisation’s Ryan Sabino commented: “As an employer of modern apprentices, Scotrail has seen the immense value of the services Inverness College UHI provides. From basic NC units to degree level, our apprentices are given the opportunity to continue to develop and grow, ensuring they are highly prized in the engineering world.

“The College also offers the upmost support for apprentices through all stages of learning and development, which is why Scotrail has continued to use the College for apprentice development for over ten years.”
