How it works...
A Modern Apprenticeship is a work-based qualification for people employed in the industry. The programme is a combination of work-based and college training and provides the dual benefit of students gaining a nationally recognised qualification while being paid as they work.
As well as gaining experience in the workplace, you’ll be supported by 'off-the-job training' at college. MA’s typically take between 12 and 18 months and each provides a route or pathway to further skills opportunities and potential progression.
Course content...
Arboriculture and forestry both involve working with and around trees, and forests and woodland are an important resource for timber, amenity and recreation, tourism and biodiversity. Forestry focuses on the management of forests and woodland, whereas arboriculture centres on the cultivation, management and care for individual trees or groups of trees, with the primary aim of maintaining them for amenity purposes.
The units delivered on this qualificaton are designed to meet the needs of the industry, allowing learners to complete a qualification that is relevant to them in their employment.
Units include:-
- Control pollution incidents
- Prepare and operate a base machine with attachments
- Apply core land-based engineering principles: servicing and maintenance

Practical assessment can be carried out in the workplace or in college, in a real work environment.
